This job was very cool. The biggest challenge here was to create a really wide DMP painting that would follow the camera as it went up along the ships deck and to the top of the mast. The second thing was to have the interaction of fire on the islands work together with the water sims and beach shore.
The Sequence is actually stitched together from what i believe was 5-6 different shoots that were done with motion control rig. Through comp the shots were blended together. My role was to create the whole exterior landscape and sky.
Here you can see the island DMP's fire was then comped on top. I had to paint in fire as separate elements for the comp artists to use later on. Lots of practical smoke and fire plates were used for those areas.
